Data Sources
Bus Schedules is built on open data published by UK government bodies and transport authorities. Every timetable, bus stop and route on this site comes from the sources listed below.
Bus Open Data Service (BODS)
Department for Transport
BODS is the UK Government's platform requiring all bus operators in England to publish timetable, fare and vehicle location data as open data. It is our primary source for bus timetables, covering thousands of routes from hundreds of operators nationwide. Data is published in TransXChange format and updated by operators whenever schedules change.

Transport for London (TfL)
TfL publishes timetable and real-time data for all London bus routes through its Unified API. London accounts for around half of all bus passenger journeys in England, with over 670 routes operated across the capital. We use TfL data for London bus timetables and live departure predictions.

NaPTAN
Department for Transport
The National Public Transport Access Nodes dataset contains the location, name and identifier for every bus stop, rail station and tram stop in Great Britain. We use NaPTAN to plot bus stops on maps, match stops to timetable data and enable location-based searches for nearby services.

Traveline NextBuses API
Traveline Information Ltd
Traveline provides real-time departure predictions for bus stops across England, Scotland and Wales through the NextBuses SIRI-SM API. When you view live departures for a bus stop on our site, the countdown times come from Traveline's data feed.

Operator Websites & Google Business Profiles
Individual bus operators
We supplement official timetable data with information gathered from individual operator websites and Google Business profiles. This includes contact details, accessibility provisions, ticket types, on-board features, customer service hours and mobile app links. This data helps passengers understand what to expect from each operator beyond the basic timetable.
